In a case like this painting - my sweet daughter - I can't really evaluate it artistically. I just see a lovely young girl on the brink of womanhood.
My goals were to use an impressionist's palette and paint the light. It helped to have a photograph that captured some of these elements.
I do have doubts about the lack of highlights in her eyes and the darks in her hair. But....
Nice job with this portrait. So she didn't sit for you? Or did she sit a bit and you also used a photo? Looking closely, there are some low lights in her eyes, but this works this way, too.

ReplyDeleteI did this entirely from a photo, using a self-portrait by Monet for ideas for coloring. I love painting children's faces. I hope you'll come back to see more paintings. Catherine
